Wait and See... AUGUST IPSY Review

About a month ago I came home from a very very long day at work to find this gem in the mail!! WOO

First of all its a super cute bag. I love this about IPSY. I get a new makeup bag every flippin month.
So this month's bag came with 5 products as usual.
      1. Noya Vanilla Lip Balm
So this product says it is Natural, Kosher, Lip Blam Preservative free and not tested on animals. It tastes sweet & vanillay..(sp?) Pretty moisturizing, just a clear balm but this girl is down for that since I'm not a big colour on the lips type of gal.
I left this in my pocket and it went through the dryer! :( so sad, but it was good while it lasted!

2. Pacifica Alight Multi-Mineral BB Cream
This is an "all in one weightless forumula(typo on the packaging? that concerns me slightly!) for effortless beauty natural beauty" It was absolutely too dark, which is often the issue for me! I couldn't tell you about the formula or anything because it was simply 5X too dark for me.

3. Pixi Lash Booster mascara
It's a mascara, nothing special here for me.

4. Nyx Blush in Desert rose - I was really excited about this blush since I loove Nyx products but it is a little dark for my skin :( curse my pale pale skin! I'm going to continue using it try with a lighter hand maybe I can work it out. it is super pigmented which is awesome most of the time! Love the formula pigmented without a  lot of fall out, just the colour being a bit dark is dampening my mood about this product! I ended up using it as an eyeshadow more often than not. I loved it this way because most pink eyeshadows that I have are not pigmented enough so this was perfect.

5. Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal scrub. I lost my mind when I saw this. I have been wanting to try out a charcoal scrub for months. MONTHS! but I'm cheap... so you know. I loved it! It's not super abrasive but still a scrub, I love the smell. My skin feels soft afterwards. I'm quite happy and may even buy a full size seeing as I get 30% off through ipsy. Hmm.

Thanks for reading up on the IPSY bag for august stay tuned to see what we get for September!
Do you guys like this better? When I review after I've used the products for a month or would you prefer it right away?

Wait and See... Favourite foods!

I don't know what it is, but people all around the world are instagramming their breakfast, lunch, dinners, snacks, drinks, all sorts of things. Food unites us all and we can all appreciate a good meal. On that note we are also a growing nation (and not in a good way) Eating healthy seems so daunting and expensive. It doesn't have to be that expensive, but then it costs you in time rather than money. We all gravitate towards the 2 dollar burger over the 10 dollars package of beef, 3 dollar buns, condiments etc etc. However, healthy eating will cost you less in the long run. It is so much better to pay for spinach now than iron pills later. All of the foods I will mention are great for your body which in turn is great for your hair, nails, skin, etc!
Anyways, let me get off my soap box.

Here are my top 5 favourite healthy foods and how I incorporate them into meals!

1. Fish.
Seriously, eat fish. The amount of nutrients and vitamins that are in fish are astounding. If you "don't lik
e how it tastes" season it. that's it. seasoning. I love white fish like haddock, cod, basa.
Take a couple fillets and place in a pan with asparagus, corn, and margarine or coconut oil. Rub the fish down with garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, dill, basil, salt and pepper. Roast in the over at 350 for 20 min or so.
                           2. Quinoa
I know you have all heard of this grain. So many nutritious properties. It is amazing, its a little bit salty, a little bit crunchy, and easy to dress up, dress down, and basically add any flavours you like. I enjoy mixing quinoa with yellow and red peppers diced up. There are many recipes to cook quinoa, the way I like is add equal parts quinoa and water. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 20 or so min until all water is absorbed/cooked off. Stir often with a fork to fluff the grain up and make it a puffy side dish.

3. Asian Pears.
I DO NOT LIKE PEARS. But I like these. I have tried so many different types of the regular old green type pear. Don't like em. Asian pears look similar to apples, are a pale yellow colour and are super juicy! I would eat these everyday if my supermarket always had them in stock (which they don't:|)  I also enjoy adding these to a spinach salad with a raspberry vinagraite

4. Cranberry Juice
I add this to all sorts of drinks. I have a fizzy pop liking (diet coke addiction post?)and I will add cranberry juice to add a fruity flavour and take down the amount of fizzy pop I'm actually drinking
Cranberry juice is a natural diuretic and really helps to alleviate UTI's and various stomach problems.

5. Berries
These things are the best thing in the world, all sorts of different kinds of berries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries - all FULL of antioxidants. Now, this is one of those healthy foods that are expensive. they just are. but they will go on sale at some point and you should jump on them then!! Also you can always grab frozen berries, just about as nutritious, I simply don't like the texture frozen berries have when they thaw out and I add them to my cereal so I try to buy fresh.

Enjoy

Wait and See... BH Cosmetics Review and Swatches

Recently I received the BH Cosmetics California collection trio sample in my July IPSY bag.
Over the past few weeks I have used this pallette of sorts in different ways and I like it quite a bit. I'm not obsessed but it is a good product!

Malibu is a yellow/gold shimmer colour which is a great lid colour and works really well on the bottom lash line.
San Francisco is a brown shimmer colour which I loved as a crease colour. A little too dark for my skin tone to use as an all over the lid colour, but on someone with more of a tan it would be great.
Hollwood is a purple matte colour. I loved this for a purple smokey eye I did. This one takes a little more work to get the colour right, but worth the work in the end.
Thanks for checking out my blog, check out the nav bar for where else to reach me!

Wait and See... July Beauty Favourites!

This month wasn't full of new products. I recently got a new car so I cut some spending but I've got a few products I feel are worth the mention.
 July Faves!

Loreal True Match Lumi Foundation
This stuff is awesome I have been using W1-2 which is porcelain/light ivory - yes I'm that white.

I have been obsessed with my E.L.F Golden bronzer. I love the four shades and the way they mix together to give a natural looking glow. There is a slight shimmer but not glitter which I like.

In my ipsy glam bag post I talked about the derma e microdermabrasion scrub. I like it, I don't love it though. It is really abrasive which is good once a week or so, but with more use it can cause some irritation.

Also an oldie but a goodie C.O Bigelow rose salve from bath and body works. I have had this since last christmas - one of my preschoolers gave it to me for a gift and I adore it. The only thing I don't like is the packaging because when you get some on your fingers it gets slippery which makes the lid difficult to get off and on. It sits on my vanity open for this reason, but that makes me use it daily so in a way it is a good thing.

That's all the favourites I have this month, like I said not a ton, but good stuff!

Wait and See... Scents

One of my favourite things in the world of beauty is a good scent!

While I am not a fan of perfume (except VS temptation!) I am a huge fan of body sprays and lotions. Bath and Body Works is heaven for me. Always on sale, always delicious, always pretty packaging, and always pulling me in.

Right now I'm burning Poolside - what a great scent! Smells like sunscreen and the beach. I love the summer and every scent related to it.
Also a huge fan of citrus scents. Just bought Fresh Picked pears lotion and it smells wonderful. Lotion is such a lifesaver. I love bath and body works because they are usually not sticky or greasy.

My current favourite scents from Bath and Body Works
BBW Be Enchanted - I have the body spray and body butter! So good.
BBW Pink Chiffon - I was given this as a gift and I adore it, it is my classroom hand lotion. Working in a child care centre includes a whole lot of handwashing. I need hand lotion. (I also love the cute seasonal soap dispensers and the kids find them so fun.)
BBW Peach Bellini candle
BBW Poolside candle

I've added links to my navigation bar for my instagram, facebook and linked in. Also I added a pin it button to the top of this page. I hope this makes your life easier let me know if anything else would be helpful!

Wait and See.. strengthening hair!!

We all want strong, shiny, beautiful hair!! We also often want straight hair or curly hair or a different colour hair... and these things are causing major damage to our hair! BUT always look on the bright side, there are things we can do to strengthen our hair.
Today i did a hair strengthening "session" for lack of a better word.
It started while I was making dinner and saw the carton of eggs in the fridge. First of all can I say that this entire carton of eggs contains to-be-twin eggs? Crazy
.
So I decide, while I wait for my rice, veggie, and bean concoction to cook I'll whip me up a hair mask.
I melted down about a tablespoon of coconut oil, added a few eggs and whisked it all up. Then over the bathroom sink I applied it liberally to my hair and went to eat dinner.
I left the mask on for about half an hour then rinsed it out with cold water. Then I shampooed with Tame argan oil shampoo - cheapy dollar store shampoo whatever. Then I applied my macadamia hair mask and left it on for about 5 min before rinsing it out.
My hair is feeling pretty good at this point, silky, soft, and wet. haha. That's where the real "review" comes in. I just bought the Tresemee Platinum Strength heat tamer spray. I am obsessed with the original and I have high hopes for this one. It smells slightly different from the original but still sprays in that fine mist we all love. It evenly distributes the product throughout the area you spray. I will have to let you know over time if it really strengthens the hair I suppose!  I used it before blowdrying and before straightening. My hair feels super soft from the masks I did and the spray didn't make my hair crunchy of sticky. so far I like it the same as the original and it's the same price so I'm happy!
Have a happy day!

Wait and See IPSY Glam bag - July 2013

Guess what came in the mail?!?!?!

I literally squealed! My parents had literally just came over (they were staying the night before their trip) and my boyfriend walked in with the mail and I SQUEALED! so excited.
July's IPSY glam bag came with 5 different products

Big sexy hair - weather proof hairspray - This product is meant to protect hair against humidity and the frizz that comes with it. I haven't used this yet but I am pretty excited about it!
Pop Beauty pouty pop crayon in coral crush. I loved this. It's light and creamy and not overly pigmented. I like this idea because I am not a big fan of bold crazy lips, but that's me. I really like it with a tinted gloss over top.
Coola Mineral Sunscreen - to be honest I don't care about this product. I'm not a big sunscreen addict. I use no name generic spf 15 spray sunscreen. I'll probably use it if I go to the beach just to use it and I'll let you know if I change my mind if it is amazing or something.
BH cosmetics eyeshadow trio. This was great, It is the California Collection and includes a purple shade - Hollywood. A brown shimmer - San Fancisco and a gold/yellow shimmer shade - Malibu. So far I have used Malibu and San Francisco. I put Malibu all over the lid and used Sanfrancisco in the crease. I liked both of them and am excited to try out Hollywood.

and finally
Derma e microdermabrasion scrub. I really enjoyed this scrub. It is a really fine scrub almost feels similar to a baking soda consistency. It has a lemon scent to it which I love I am a huge citrus fan. I feel that with continued use it is helpful with cell turnover and sloughing off the dead skin and gunk that builds up in your pores.

That's all for the July IPSY glam bag. Can't wait to see what August brings us! Let me know what you thought of your bag if you get IPSY bags!

Wait and See... VEGAS

Well... I'm back from Vegas and it was FANTASTIC!! There were so many opportunities for amazing shopping! I'm not really a 'party' girl so I loved walking around seeing the sights and the different shops!
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Resort - Desert Club Resort. It was about a 15 min walk to the strip which was pretty good. It was super hot but a dry heat as compared to the horrid humidity here in London Ontario so it was nice. I love the heat (I don't think I was meant to be born in Canada haha)
First day we walked down the strip to Bally's and the Cosmopolitan and such and gambled/shopped our day away!  Litter so fun, we went into a Prada store which was hilarious since we SO didn't fit in haha. But everyone was really nice:) Then we went to a Tiffany & co which was so sparkly and princessesque. Didn't make any purchases at the high end stores, but I really liked looking. I'm a big fan of window shopping.
2nd day we went swimming, ate at the on site restaurant which was pretty good. They served starbucks drinks there which was cool. Then we walked to the Rio which was quite the trek along the I-15 but was amazing once we got there. We played Craps a lot and won, and then lost haha that's kind of how it goes I suppose. Then we saw the Penn & Teller show which was great although it was a little short in my opinion. We got awesome huge drinks in giant cups which was really fun!
The greatest thing was that if you were sitting down at a table or machine the girls came around and offered you free drinks :D Hooray for being cheap!
3rd day we went to the Premium Outlet mall which was AMAZING. I got a Coach cross-body bag for HALF price as well as a pair of Nike's for super cheap! I've worn my bag everyday and my new shoes every time I've hit the gym since I got back! We drove past the Gold and Silver Pawn shop (from Pawn Stars) which Nathan (the boy) was super excited about. We saw a lot of cool stuff on the shuttle and had a great driver named BP. We wanted to know so badly was it stood for but were too shy to ask! Any ideas?
At night we went to the Venetian and saw Rock of Ages which was AWESOME!!! It's an 80's music show similar to We Will Rock You. Quite the show! Not a family show though just fyi.
The next "day" I got up early (yes I know who gets up early on vacation??) to go sit by the pool because we had to leave the resort at 945 and I wanted to get some sun in before we had to leave.
We got to the airport and met another UFC fighter (we met one at a signing on the first day at the shopping mall) which was pretty cool.
Got back to Toronto on the day of the flood. JOYFUL. Power was out at the airport so everything was backed up and slow. Took a bit but we eventually got home safe and sound so no complaints here.
Here's a few pictures of the cool things we got and did.

Wait and See.. Hits and Misses!

Everytime I go shopping for products I hope for a hit! But every then and again, it turns out not so much...
misses are a part of life, mistakes happen and we can all learn from them.
should we start with the good or the bad?
the bad I suppose is the way to go, rip off the bandaid of sorts.
First and foremost i would like to say, these products didn't work for ME. That means they might work for you, but for me it just didnt happen.
LUSH bath bombs, I just don't get the appeal, and I've  tried my fair share, I WANT to love it, but i take a bath, it fizzes and all and then... flatline------ just seems silly that I spent money on it, didnt make my skin miracle smooth or soft, a little oily but once I dried off, it went away.
Almay age defying concealer
This product sounded great, the colour on the tube, since you can't swatch it, looks right but when I got it home it had a super gray cast. I thought to myself okay, not for under eye area but maybe blemishes? Nope! Just made a cakey look to them and made the skin look dull. NOT a fan.
Maybelline colour tatoo in bad to the bronze
Again I WANT to love this, it seems to be a cult product, but I don't. it is sticky and too dark which i can't exactly blame on the product, but I still was left unhappy. Maybe you have to be more tan to enjoy this product, but then I didnt like the formulation either so who knows?
On to the good stuff! hooray!
Recently purchased a new foundation as my Nearly Naked by Revlon was nearly gone and starting to get tacky with the warmer months. so I tried
Loreal magic lumi foundation in Ivory
This is awesome, if for no other reason than the freakin pump! I love me a good oump on a product, plus the coverage is decent, medium not full but thats what I prefer. If you are looking for full coverage you can definately build this up.
Urban decay Naked Basics and Naked Flushed
I am a self-proclaimed urban decay naked junkie, I have every product in the line minus the foundation. The naked basics is wonderful with all the matte colours to compliment the shimmery blush that comes woth naked fluahed. All the pallettes work well together. I literally cannot say enough good things about this line.
LUSH Ocean face and body scrub. Finally a Lush product I can get behind . This is a fantastic scrub. I got a sample with my last (read:disaster) lush buy. While most of that stuff was a bust I tried this product instead of just tossing it like lost hopes and dreams that were my impression of lush. I will purchase this again and again, it is fantastic!!
That's all for

Today I am heading to Vegas today so stay tuned for a Vegas haul!

Wait and See... Products I've used up!

Empties!
As I came to the end of June I wanted to take about all the things I loved/hated for June but then I realized that I had 5 products I have used up! So before I post my hits and misses blog I wanted to tell you all about my empties!

1. Nivea Refreshing Toner http://well.ca/products/nivea-refreshing-toner_2749.html
I liked this toner, I used it.. but I'm not racing out to get it. It was okay nothing fancy. Wasn't a bad buy but I didn't fall in love with it.

2. Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation http://well.ca/products/revlon-nearly-naked-liquid-makeup_67157.html
I adored this foundation for the colder months (it's just gotten really hot here as of June) I started to love it less as we went through June, because it doesn't stand up in the heat as well on MY skin. I am also EXTREMELY pale and this oxidized on me in the heat. However, the coverage was great for the winter/spring months when my skin was a little drier. I will likely repurchase when the weather gets colder again. I use colour 110 Ivory.

3. Sally Hansen Maximum strength polish remover http://www.sallyhansen.co.uk/products/nail-polish-remover
I love this. It's the only one I buy, and only one I ever will buy! I don't know why, but this polish is fantastic. I bought the purple one once.. NO GO! Love the pink It's advertise for thin soft nails which is a huge problem I have - my nails peel and anything I can do to help is best. They've changed the packaging since I last bought this, but I think the formulation is the same.

4. Maybelline Age rewind facial primer.
http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=127107/Instant_Age_Rewind_Primer_Skin_Transformer/Maybelline/Primer/_Corrector
I enjoyed this primer. It's a gel consistency and clear when it comes out. It smooths over your skin and allows your make up to glide over top of this layer. It made my foundation glide on but I can't say it kept it on any longer than other times, but I felt like it helped with moisturizing.

5. Macadamia Deep Repair Masque http://www.amazon.ca/Macadamia-Oil-Deep-Repair-ounces/dp/B002WTC37A
I've talked about this a lot. I love this product. I use it as conditioner every time I wash my hair. Keep in mine I only wash my hair every 3-4 days. I don't think you should use this every day nor is it economically sound. This is expensive, but worth it for me as it lasts a long time and gives amazing results

These are all the products I used up in the last little bit. Stay tuned for my favourites and my hits/misses post.

Wait and See... hair talk!

Hair Products I ADORE
These products have made me actually like my hair which has been a daily or hourly battle since I was a child! I would describe my hair as THICK, slightly wavy, frizzy, dry at the ends, and damaged to say the least. I am a natural blonde, but I have been lightening my hair for years. Before I found products that allowed my hair to be somewhat tame I straightened it daily. I didn't know about fancy, fancy heat protectants and such! I’m in the process of healing and growing my hair out. Here are the products I started using when I decided enough was enough and we were going back to healthy hair!

       1. Bye Bye Frizz Blow Dry Cream by Marc Anthony. I LOVE this stuff. Just apply it to your hair evenly (I focus at the ends since I have dry ends and oily roots) Blow dry as normal.  I swear this stuff cuts the frizz and fluff factor of my hair by at least 50 percent. It’s not sleek as though I had used a straightener but a hell of a lot closer than not using it. Plus it protects my hair from the heat. I use this in conjunction with product 2 and 3 for the most part, but have used it on its own and it’s still fantastic!

 2. Salon Selectives Repair and Fortify Leave in Treatment for Dry damaged hair. I spritz this on my hair from the ears down right after I get out of the shower. I also spray it on my hair whenever it feels dry. I like the way it smells. I wouldn't classify this as the best leave in conditioner.I'm sure there are others I would like, but this was cheap, smells good, and does the job!
                 3.  Tresemée Heat Tamer Spray
– I love this, you love this, everyone loves this. I would say this is a cult product and I am drinking the kool-aid for sure. I love the way this product sprays out in a fine mist, how good it smells, and the fact that it protects my hair from damage!

As I said, I use these products together most of the time. I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week because any more and my hair gets SO dry. Here are some more hair products I use in the shower.
4. Herbal Essences None of your Frizzness shampoo – in reality I’m not picky about shampoo. I just bought Tame frizz shampoo from the dollar store because my Herbal essences one is almost out. But I must say, I love the way this one smells. Mmm.

           5.  Macadamia Natural Oil Line – mainly the deep repair masque. I've tried the oil, shampoo, moisturizing rinse and oil spray. All are ‘good’ but the deep repair mask, that is in a class all its own. I use it as my conditioner. Every time. It smells AMAZING and mainly… it works! My hair feels so soft after using this product.  This stuff is worth the money.

Now for a hair product I hate..
UGH
Lush R&B hair moisturizer. For one thing it smells DISGUSTING. I literally couldn't handle it. Not even if I covered it up by spraying body spray on my hair. It smells like old leaves. I don’t know I can’t explain it, but it’s gross. On top of THAT, it doesn't work! I didn't notice any difference in the ends of my hair. I stuck to this for a good 2 weeks 2-3 times a week. It was bad.

I really want to like Lush, but they are making it difficult.
