Wait and See... Favourite foods!

I don't know what it is, but people all around the world are instagramming their breakfast, lunch, dinners, snacks, drinks, all sorts of things. Food unites us all and we can all appreciate a good meal. On that note we are also a growing nation (and not in a good way) Eating healthy seems so daunting and expensive. It doesn't have to be that expensive, but then it costs you in time rather than money. We all gravitate towards the 2 dollar burger over the 10 dollars package of beef, 3 dollar buns, condiments etc etc. However, healthy eating will cost you less in the long run. It is so much better to pay for spinach now than iron pills later. All of the foods I will mention are great for your body which in turn is great for your hair, nails, skin, etc!
Anyways, let me get off my soap box.

Here are my top 5 favourite healthy foods and how I incorporate them into meals!

1. Fish.
Seriously, eat fish. The amount of nutrients and vitamins that are in fish are astounding. If you "don't lik
e how it tastes" season it. that's it. seasoning. I love white fish like haddock, cod, basa.
Take a couple fillets and place in a pan with asparagus, corn, and margarine or coconut oil. Rub the fish down with garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, dill, basil, salt and pepper. Roast in the over at 350 for 20 min or so.
                           2. Quinoa
I know you have all heard of this grain. So many nutritious properties. It is amazing, its a little bit salty, a little bit crunchy, and easy to dress up, dress down, and basically add any flavours you like. I enjoy mixing quinoa with yellow and red peppers diced up. There are many recipes to cook quinoa, the way I like is add equal parts quinoa and water. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 20 or so min until all water is absorbed/cooked off. Stir often with a fork to fluff the grain up and make it a puffy side dish.

3. Asian Pears.
I DO NOT LIKE PEARS. But I like these. I have tried so many different types of the regular old green type pear. Don't like em. Asian pears look similar to apples, are a pale yellow colour and are super juicy! I would eat these everyday if my supermarket always had them in stock (which they don't:|)  I also enjoy adding these to a spinach salad with a raspberry vinagraite

4. Cranberry Juice
I add this to all sorts of drinks. I have a fizzy pop liking (diet coke addiction post?)and I will add cranberry juice to add a fruity flavour and take down the amount of fizzy pop I'm actually drinking
Cranberry juice is a natural diuretic and really helps to alleviate UTI's and various stomach problems.

5. Berries
These things are the best thing in the world, all sorts of different kinds of berries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries - all FULL of antioxidants. Now, this is one of those healthy foods that are expensive. they just are. but they will go on sale at some point and you should jump on them then!! Also you can always grab frozen berries, just about as nutritious, I simply don't like the texture frozen berries have when they thaw out and I add them to my cereal so I try to buy fresh.

Enjoy
